Overview
OpenTees keeps cookies to a minimum. We don't need one to run the core service. The one optional technology we use — Google Analytics — only ever runs if you actively choose to allow it.
What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of information a website can store in your browser and read back on a later visit. Similar technologies (like browser storage) work the same way for this notice's purposes. OpenTees also uses signed, short-lived links for things like editing your preferences — these carry a one-time code in the page address itself, not a cookie, and expire automatically.
Strictly necessary
OpenTees does not currently set any strictly-necessary cookie of its own. Preference-editing and acquisition-question links use a signed access code in the URL instead, and your cookie-consent choice itself is remembered using your browser's local storage, not a cookie.
Our website host, Framer, runs its own basic site-analytics script on every page to keep the site working and measure traffic at an aggregate level; we did not find it setting a persistent cookie in our own testing, but Framer is responsible for its own technology — see Framer's own privacy notice ↗ for details of what it does.
Analytics — Google Analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics to understand how people use OpenTees — which pages are visited, roughly how, and whether changes we make actually help — so we can improve the service. Google Analytics's own code is not loaded into the page at all — no script, no cookie, no measurement data sent — until you accept analytics in the cookie banner or in cookie settings.
These durations are Google's own published defaults, not figures we have independently verified — see Google's cookie documentation ↗. Google processes this information as described in Google's own privacy policy ↗; Google is based in the United States, so accepting analytics involves an international transfer of this information, which Google is responsible for safeguarding under its own transfer mechanisms.
If you reject or simply ignore the banner, Google Analytics stays off and none of the above cookies are set.
Your choices
Choose "Accept analytics" or "Reject analytics" the first time you visit. Both options are equally easy to select — we don't use tricks like a highlighted accept button and a hidden reject option, and simply continuing to browse, scrolling, or closing the banner is never treated as consent.
You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the website footer, or the button below. Switching from accept to reject stops any further analytics collection and removes the Google Analytics cookies we can reach from this browser.
